Quiet Moorings

The first thing that leaps out of this piece is the vibrant colors. The buildings surrounding the canal in particular, stand proudly with a kind of deep, yet joyful splendor. Also, there’s a far more focused hand at work here when it comes to the increased detail. Notice the interior of the two boats near the foreground such as the individual slats and the bottoms. Water reflections also appear to have gone considerably darker, perhaps due to the increased blockage of natural sunlight from the huddled subjects. This is the most sublime of Pantaleoni’s Venice works.
