For the first time in this series, yellow becomes one of the more dominant colors here, surrounding the painting with an ethereal aura. The mountain of purple sugar cubes in the center background wouldn’t look out of place in some obscure children’s fantasy tale. The ruins of a once prosperous city of confections, perhaps. Discarded candied orange slices adorn the right foreground.
